Thank you to the Stihl company, Justin Nurse (Laugh It Off) and all involved in making the Stihl Lumberjack Festival such a success! Lievland was the place to be last weekend! We hope to have a repeat performance in the near future! Up next on our calender, will be What “We Are Going To Be Doing On Sunday on a Wine Farm Near Stellenbosch” happening Sunday 6th May….acoustic live music, picnic and a relaxed sunday for the whole family. It will be the last folkfest for the season, so come and enjoy and remember to watch this space!

What is the Stihl Lumberjack Festival?

The STIHL Lumberjack Festival will be a carnival-crazy combination of an agricultural show, a musical festival, and a family fête – all centred around Lumber Games and other sporting activities that rope in children, parents, students, and the working man. Everything from Tree Climbing and Axe Throwing, to a Giant Tree Swing, Jumping Castle and epic Water Slide will be on the go – along with great music and comedy MC’ing providing further entertainment in the background throughout the day.

A dedicated sundowner music session in the evening, when the Lumber Games have wound down, will feature Jeremy Loops performing on the Saturday the 14th of April, and the Valiant Swart Band on Sunday the 15th of April. The event will be hosted by comedian Dave Levinsohn.

Admission is R50. Gates open at 07h00, and awesome activities include:

08h00 – 11h00: Fun Run (6km/12km) Forming part of the TSIBA EDEN-New Balance Trail Run Series, the undulating terrain of Lievland Wine Estate will be tested underfoot by runners and walkers alike. All proceeds raised go to TSiBA Eden, Sedgefield.

11h00 – 16h00: Lumber Games Show your stuff in events such as the Stock Saw, Jack & Jill Crosscut Saw, Obstacle Course, Tree Climbing, Axe Throwing, Log Hurling and the Boom Run. The emphasis is on physical fun, family participation, and student shenanigans.

16h00 – 20h00: Live Music

Other fun activities include a Kids Obstacle Course Race, Wood Sculpturing and Tree Planting (in association with Greenpop).

Swedish wine award for Stellenbosch

Stellenbosch in the Western Cape has been given the prestigious Wine Town of the Year Award for 2011 by the influential Swedish wine club Munsk�nkarna, the first time this honour has gone to a wine region outside of the European Union.

Munsk�nkarna, a wine club with over 22�000 active members based in Sweden, Finland and Spain, is highly influential among Sweden’s wine consumers. Club members tend to spend more money on wine than the average consumer, and they are looked upon as wine experts in their own social networks.

“We are very proud to have been chosen by Munsk�nkarna,” Stellenbosch Wine Routes CEO Annareth Bolton said in a statement last week. “South Africa currently holds 20.5% of the market share in the Swedish wine market, making us the largest exporter to their country.”

Munsk�nkarna’s board members took part in a week-long tour of Stellenbosch’s winelands last week, visiting some of the region’s top wineries, tasting wines with award-winning winemakers and exploring the diverse cuisine on offer at the region’s restaurants � all against the backdrop of the breathtakingly beautiful vineyards of the Western Cape.

“We expect many more groups and visitors to our area, and we look forward to showcasing our exceptional quality wines and tourism offerings,” Bolton said.
